Can you really image a time when your land is under attack so yo NEED your personal robot for protection because you stand no chance alone against an android? The thought of it all is actually kind of creepy/scary/ & creepy. But at the rate that technology is moving I give it a couple more centuries before we all are living like Star Wars....but first baby steps.
This week a 50,000 square foot facility named The Laboratory for Autonomous Systems Research [LASR] in Washington, DC. With a price tag of $17.7 million, LASR is a military building used to train robots to withstand sandstorms, shorelines and jungle humidity.
The two main areas are the Desert High Bay and the Littoral High Bay. Robots in the Desert High Bay are meant to burrow through 2.5 foot-deep sand pits, or for climbing rock walls. While other robots are put in sandstorm/lightening situation to test their vision under war type environment. The Littoral High Bay is for more of the SEAL-bots. Those that practice their coastal approach in a five feet deep pool that can be loaded with water, sand, gravel, or mud.
It seems to me the robots must work in pairs; one that gets the duo to the location [there and back] while the other is meant to get the job done. One drives while the other one is shooting out the window... Regardless like I said before, this all is pretty creepy.
